Fowl not Foul Flock Diary

July 2008

At the beginning of July 2008 a terrible accident befell little Bridget. As she was going to bed, she must have dislodged the henhouse door, because she was found with a broken neck, the door having fell onto her as she tried to enter the house. Poor Hilda was left outside, frightened, but eventually she was persueded to go into the house to sleep. We modified the door, so that the accident could not happen again.

On 6th July, some of the eggs in the incubator began to pip. In the early hours of the morning the first chick hatched. Later on, at about 11.00, the second chick hatched.

On the next day a third chick hatched, and during the night a fourth chick hatched out from one of the green eggs in the incubator. All they other chicks hatched from pale brown eggs.

On the morning of 9th July I checked the eggs remaining in the incubator, and discovered one pipping!

Please check back here next month for more news of the chicks
