Notice that Ayam Betina's wing primaries are
longer than Alektor's.
Cockerel wing feathers develop more slowly than those of pullets. This leads me to believe that Alektor is male, and Ayam Betina is female. |

It appears that Ayam betina's tail is growing faster than Alektor's, confirming my suspicions that Alektor is a cockerel, and Ayam Betina is a pullet.

Alektor and Ayam Betina the Barnevelders. These two Barnevelders look almost exactly the same - I can only tell the difference between them by examining the webs of their toes - Alektor has only one single perforation in one of her foot webs, whereas Ayam Betina has one perforation in both feet. I originallly thought that they would be pullet and cockerel, but it now definitely appears that both are pullets, because both birds' tails have developed as rounded hen-feathers, and neither bird has developed the characteristic pointed hackle and saddle feathers of a cockerel....Alektor will just have to put up with her boys' name, as it was given to her as a chick and seems pointless to change.
13th March
Both Barnevelder pullets begin to lay eggs

Cream Legbars: Pullets (females); Cockerels (males) - Cream Legbars are a sex-linked breed, which means that cockerels (males) and pullets (females) are hatched a different colour.
